Giving back to the community has always been a top priority for New York Jets Defensive Lineman Vinny Curry. The combination of his philanthropic mentality and his incredible talent at playing as well as coaching football led Curry to create the annual Vinny Curry Football Camp. The free one day camp is not only a great opportunity for the children to grow as athletes, but more importantly gives the children in the community a chance to fall in love with the sport and have fun. During the fourth annual Vinny Curry Football Camp, Curry highlights that even at the NFL level the game should be fun. The 9 year NFL veteran stated, “When football is no longer fun, that’s the day you should stop playing.” At the end of the day, the purpose of the camp is for Curry to share the game he loves with the younger generations and allow them to have fun with it.
The day is filled with drills, a live DJ, and a number of other fun activities for the campers. Children came from throughout the community in Ocean City, including youth football teams in the area. Parents in the area as well as their children understand how special it is to get to learn from a top NFL talent. In years past Curry has brought along NFL teammates to help as volunteer coaches. While there is such a wealth of football knowledge among the coaches present, Curry is clear that while they would be teaching the fundamentals of the game there was a much bigger goal in mind; “It’s really about getting out here with their friends and having a great time.”
This free one day camp for children spanning from kindergarten through eighth grade is Curry’s way of giving back to the community. This camp is an opportunity for children to learn more about the game, and hopefully in the process have a great time.
